Textbook (pdf)en_US
This is a practical ‘how to’ counselling and helping skills textbook. In this book I present the component skills for the Relationship– Understanding–Changing (RUC) life skills counselling model, which consists of three stages, each of which has three phases. The RUC model provides a systematic approach for clients to develop specific life skills to change how they feel, think, and communicate and act. The book’s main focus is on counselling individuals. It is intended primarily as a text for counselling skills classes led by skilled trainers. I’ve designed the book for both introductory and more advanced training purposes. For example, the book pays great attention to skills of offering good counselling relationships and clarifying problems. In addition, it presents more advanced assessment skills and a large repertoire of counselling interventions.en_US
